The Society for Green Microbiology (SGM) is dedicated to supporting researchers, students, and professionals working in Green Microbiology. We offer three exclusive grants to our members and provide a curated list of external grants and scholarships to further advance research, training, and impact in the field.

SGM Research & Innovation Grant

Funding groundbreaking research in Green Microbiology.

Grant Details:

  • Funding AmountUp to $5,000
  • Eligibility: Open to SGM members conducting innovative research in food systems, water sustainability, renewable energy, climate change, or microbial applications for environmental restoration.
  • Application Requirements:
    • Research proposal (max 2,000 words).
    • CV and list of previous research contributions.
    • Endorsement letter from an academic or research institution.
  • Grant Timeline: Must align with the chosen round
    (see Application Rounds below).

SGM Community Impact Grant

Funding grassroots projects using microbial solutions for sustainability.
  • Grant Details:

    • Funding AmountUp to $3,000
    • Eligibility: Open to SGM members working on community-based projects integrating Green Microbiology (e.g., waste management, clean water access, sustainable farming).
    • Application Requirements:
      • Project proposal (max 1,500 words).
      • Evidence of impact (e.g., past work, pilot studies, testimonials).
      • Budget breakdown and implementation timeline.
    Grant Timeline: Must align with the chosen round

SGM Training & Travel Grant

Supporting participation in conferences, workshops, and field training.
  • Grant Details:

    • Funding AmountUp to $2,500
    • Eligibility: Open to SGM members attending conferences, training programs, or field research initiatives that align with Green Microbiology.
    • Application Requirements:
      • Conference/workshop/training acceptance letter.
      • Statement of purpose explaining how the opportunity aligns with your work in Green Microbiology.
      • Budget breakdown, including travel and accommodation expenses.

    Grant Timeline: Must align with the chosen round

  • Notification Date: Late May
  • Project/Training Start Period: Early June 2025 – Early December 2025

Round 2

  • Applications Open: June 12
  • Applications Close: September 8
  • Notification Date: Late November
  • Project/Training Start Period: Early December 2025 – Early June 2026
